Perhaps the biggest single problem that the organisers have with staging Africa Aerospace and Defence exhibitions is with the Department of Defence’s unfriendly and frankly obnoxious military personnel who are determined on destroying any credibility that this biannual exhibition may have. There are many individuals, including me who have tried their hardest to ensure that AAD is a ‘world class’ exhibition and airshow. But, it appears that the lessons learnt from staging AAD2014 and AAD2016 at AFB Waterkloof have been completely ignored by the increasingly hostile defence and state institutions.
African Pilot’s only interest is to experience a successful AAD exhibition. For this reason my magazine has partnered with AAD exhibitions for many years, because we have used the platform to enhance the African Pilot’s footprint. However, when faced with several bad experiences mainly at the hands of military personnel who are hell bent on destroying all the good will and ambassador outreach that our country desperately needs, I am not altogether sure that African Pilot needs to tarnish its good name at the hands of destructive individuals.
So what do you think?
